African Horse Company
Welcome to horseback riding trails in South Africa’s Cape Floral Kingdom along the Whale Coast. African Horse Company is based on Stanford Hills Estate, around the idyllic hamlet, Stanford .
Outrides on offer are 30mins and 1 hour mountain trails catering for beginners to advanced horse riders. Canter through the vineyards, climb the foothills and meander through the forest. Stanford Hills offers an array of nature attractions.
The horses used are local South African Crossbreeds (Arab and Boerperd blood). Surefooted, enduring and fully adapted to the environment with regard to grazing, weather and terrain, they are the true horses of South Africa and the key to a special opportunity to ride through the wonderful, untouched nature of the region.

Fitted with its quiet, eco-friendly motor, birding clubs often use the boat for close-up views and the stability – thanks to the pontoons – makes it a photographer’s dream. We also specialise in social-cruises. Whichever time of day you choose, the river has something special in store for you.

The Tasting Room at Stanford Hills Estate offers an inviting setting for wine tasting, beloved by both locals and visitors.

Stanford, a relatively new wine production area, shows tremendous potential due to its proximity to the coast, which provides cool sea breezes during hotter months, allowing grapes to ripen optimally. Winemaker Peter Kastner believes that great wine starts in the vineyard, crediting the region’s excellent soil and climate for the quality of the Estate wines. All grapes are grown on the farm and handpicked to ensure the best quality for annual wine production.
Wine tasting is offered daily at The Tasting Room, where you can enjoy our wines alongside breakfast, platters, and a selection of lunch options that change daily. The somewhat rustic cellar, located in one half of an airplane hangar on the farm, embodies Peter’s philosophy of minimal interference during the winemaking process, allowing the grapes to express their individual identity.
