Take a scenic, hour and a half long drive along the Cape Whale Coast from Cape Town, and you will discover Stanford Hills Estate, which is fast becoming one of the area’s most popular attractions. This magnificent family owned boutique wine estate has a little bit of everything to offer lovers of the great outdoors. The talented Stanford Hills team share a passion for the wholesome gifts that nature has to offer us and strive to share this philosophy with visitors to the Estate.

Stanford is a relatively new wine production area which is showing tremendous potential. The proximity of Stanford Hills Estate to the coast ensures cool sea breezes during the hotter months, allowing the grapes to gently ripen at optimal speed. Winemaker Peter Kastner believes that great wine is produced in the vineyard, and credits the wonderful soil and climate of the region for the quality of the Estate wines. All grapes used are produced on the farm itself and picked by hand to ensure only the best quality grapes are used for annual wine production.

Nestled on the historic Weltevrede Farm, Stanford Hills offers you an array of accommodation options from charming self-catering cottages to a historic Manor House steeped in history, and luxury glamping tents . Located just a stone’s throw away from the quaint village of Stanford, the estate offers a tranquil retreat surrounded by picturesque fields of fynbos, vineyards, and olive groves.

The Tasting Room is a wonderful breakfast and lunch venue, popular with locals and visitors alike.
A renovated original farm cottage is the setting for the charming tasting and bar area, with views over a dam to the Stanford valley beyond. The large outside seating area is covered and thus protected from the elements during winter. The drop down blinds and two fireplaces ensure that this venue is perfect for breakfast or lunch all year round.

There's Always Something Happening
Stanford Hills Estate still boasts the immaculately preserved Manor House that along with two refurbished labourers’ cottages serve as self-catering accommodation. In addition there are ten luxury “glamping” tents (all of which have private wood fired hot tubs) where guests can enjoy the great outdoors while still experiencing life’s luxuries.
The Tasting Room restaurant has a reputation for laid back fun, with the emphasis on fresh and inventive food of an exceptionally high standard. The chalkboard menu features daily specials according to what is locally fresh and available, including items from our own vegetable garden.
Stanford Hills has also become known for bringing some of South Africa’s greatest musical talent to the Overberg area, including Louise Carver, Ard Matthews, Watershed and Arno Carstens.
Wine tasting is offered at the Wine Shop or at The Tasting Room, both of which are open seven days a week from 8.30-5.00 pm.
The farm also produces Proteas and Pincushions, which are endemic to South Africa, so from August through November the farm is filled with these colourful blooms.
The farm offers a variety of activities, including, horse-riding, and hiking . You can also have a swim in a farm dam, try your hand at fishing, or simply lie in bed and listen to the birds.
The Klein River Mountains overlook the charming village of Stanford. It is famous for its’ award winning eateries and has an eclectic mix of art galleries, breweries and wine farms. Stanford is in close proximity to Hermanus, considered as one best whale watching destinations in the world and a treat for adventurous types, as there are mountain bike trails, horse riding, shark cage diving and boat cruises, all within the area.
We loved our short stay at Brunia Cottage this weekend. The decor of the cottage was lovely and the setting was gorgeous. Our kids thoroughly enjoyed it too. We will definitely be back!

Jacksons Pinotage
Our Flagship Pinotage is a prime example of cool climate Pinotage. After three years in bottle, this wine is still showing lively fruit flavours of red cherries, tomato leaf and plum, followed by subtle tertiary characters of tobacco and dried fig.
Stanford Hills Shiraz
This is a beautiful example of cool climate Shiraz. The tannins are silky and rounded with great spice and character on the palate. The nose is rich and full of flavour with hints of tobacco and white pepper that accentuate dark red fruit of blackberries, plum and dark cherries.
Stanford Hills Rosé
Pale and fresh, our 2021 Rosé is best enjoyed chilled in both temperature and temperament. Deep red fruit flavours of dark red cherries and currants are prominent with great acidity to back it up.
Stanford Hills Sauvignon Blanc
This fresh and lively sauvignon blanc shows a blend of tropical fruit, kiwi and a saline finish. The orange “koffieklip” soils lend richness and texture while the white limestone clay soils lend tension and a savoury note.
Veldfire Cape Blend
This is a robust wine with great balance between savoury and fruit flavours. Dark berries, liquorice and olives gives this wine a broody nature while tannins are still soft and elegant.
Veldfire Pinotage
It is lively and smooth on the palate with delicate red fruit coming through on the nose; raspberries, cherries and strawberry are all prominent while still maintaining a fine structure and balance.
